About This Course

Those who have developed a key form of intelligence will thrive and be ahead of the curve, especially as AI becomes more pervasive. The most adaptive people are inclusively intelligent, meaning they have intentionally created broad networks of information and ideas and regularly put themselves in situations that prompt positive cognitive friction to elevate their critical and analytical thinking. Inclusive intelligence is such a critical competency that organizations specifically require it in new executive hires. Attend this session to learn more about this valuable form of personal and organizational intelligence and how to cultivate it. Attendees will also learn about the differences between diversity, equity, and inclusion and the research demonstrating the efficacy of DEI in the workplace.

Topics addressed in this workshop:

  • DEI is still considered valuable by a majority of corporate and legal leaders; large percentages of employees and lawyers expect it
  • Research demonstrates that organizations with advanced DEI initiatives are higher performing in several different measures
  • Definitions of diversity, equity, and inclusion; relationship to equality
  • Other terms used instead of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Three main rationales for diversity: 1) moral/ethical, 2) legal, and 3) business
  • The myth of meritocracy (research shows that people in underrepresented groups have to be more qualified which counter the false narrative about merit)
  • Diverse teams outperform homogenous teams; research shows that social identity diversity is critical in enhancing team decision making
  • Diversity in the 21st Century is viewed more broadly and encompasses all social identity groups, including less visible aspects; everyone has aspects of diversity, and anyone can be excluded based on their social identity group
  • Important social identities form and inform our worldview while less important identities can operate as blind spots, which can lead to mistakes in decision-making
  • Looking into blind spots leads to greater inclusive intelligence
  • Gender blind spots in the legal industry – research by the ABA
  • Why inclusive intelligence is important and how to become a smarter decision-maker
  • Why it is important to advance DEI in legal organizations

Participants will create their own personal action plan for building their own inclusive intelligence based on what they learned in the workshop.
