Team planning for participation of students with complex support needs in Preschool-Kindergarten environment and activities.
This course introduces a structured team planning process designed to support the full participation of children with significant disabilities in regular preschool and kindergarten classrooms. Using a practical planning template, educators and support staff will learn how to create inclusive experiences that reflect each child’s strengths and needs.
Real-world examples featuring a child with cerebral palsy and another with Down syndrome bring the planning process to life. The course also highlights how to measure the “fidelity of implementation” of supports—an essential step in determining whether a child’s performance accurately reflects their true potential.
Cheryl M. Jorgensen, Ph.D., has been an inclusive education advocate for 35 years. She worked for 26 years as a faculty-researcher at the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire, U.S. She has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and five books. Since leaving the university in 2011 she has been a consultant and professional development provider with parents and schools from the preschool - grade 12 level, and presents at national and international conferences.
